Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.
The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.
Since 2003 AKHS, A is implementing Healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary Healthcare, Preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. The current working modality and role of AKHS, A in Bamyan and Badakhshan provinces as BPHS and EPHS implementer. AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwifery.
AKHS, A tapped into internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary supports to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A scale up AKDN innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission.
Job Description:
Main Responsibilities :

- Adhering to the principles and regulations of the office.
- Respecting working hours.
- Carrying out work activities in accordance with the procedures and policies of the Ministry of Public Health.
- No discrimination or stigma and providing a suitable environment for clients.
- Complete understanding of the program’s overall objectives, indicators, and activities.
- Providing nursing services/laboratory examinations according to the instructions of the relevant doctor on a daily basis in OPD and IPD (outpatient and inpatient).
- Striving to achieve the set facilitation goals on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Providing safe and easy access to appropriate health services for patients.
- Active participation in all in-service training programs at the center.
- Actively participate in inpatient monitoring activities and provide facilities.
- Clients with mild illnesses should be evaluated and treated as agreed.
- Coordination and inclusion of a psychological and social counselor in the proper management of the patient’s case.
- Collaborate with the doctor when necessary, during OPD and IPD.
- Implementing OST-related activities in methadone distribution to patients.
- Checking patients’ vital signs and recording OPD/IPD documents.
- Providing primary health care when necessary.
- Transporting patients to the hospital when necessary.
- Follow universal precautions (disinfection and hygiene) and methods for managing sharps and contaminated waste.
- Responsible for infection prevention and sterilization of minor surgical kits and hygiene of the health center.
- Providing awareness services to target populations and community members based on ANPASH/MoPH harm reduction guidelines to reduce stigma and discrimination.
- Identify any problems and present them to the relevant manager.
- Prepare monthly activity reports for direct supervisor.
- Recording all activities performed in soft and hard form.
- Coordinate activities/cases with other staff in the health facility.
Duties :
Before the examination :
1. Checking the cleanliness of the rooms.
2. Checking the purity of the necessary materials.
3. Preparing materials during work (gloves, disinfectants, etc.)
4. Organize patient admissions based on their priority.
5. Providing health education to clients according to specific time allocations.
During the examination :
1. Providing the patient with complete information about their problem.
2. Explaining the problem accurately to the patient and asking for help from the doctor if necessary.
3. Accurate and correct dressing, taking into account sterilization conditions.
4. Schedule a re-meeting if necessary.
After the examination :
1. Check the cleanliness of materials and equipment after each use.
2. Participating and participating in various trainings organized by the Ministry of Health, United Nations offices, and relevant institutions.
Sterilization :
1. Collect all contaminated hospital equipment.
2. Properly carrying out the sterilization process of medical devices.
3. Returning the materials to the hospital and ensuring that sterilized materials are used.
Job Requirements:
Abilities, characteristics and skills :
- Graduated from Intermediate Medical Institute, Health Sciences Institute
- Having a nursing or midwifery diploma approved by the Ministry of Public Health
- At least two or three years of work experience in the relevant field
- Having a kind and friendly personality
- Sufficient health and strength for work
- Has played a worthy and active role in in-service training for community health workers
- Required characteristics (sincerity, patience, diligence)
- Maintaining order and discipline
