The Afghan Red Crescent Society, established in 1934, is an independent and humanitarian organization recognized by the Government of Afghanistan as a charitable and impartial institution for government agencies. The Afghan Red Crescent Society plays an important role in providing voluntary services and humanitarian assistance. According to the law and the statutes, the National Society carries out its activities in accordance with its seven principles of philanthropy, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and inclusiveness. Among other things, the National Society is responsible for assisting affected communities, providing emergency shelter and distributing relief items to vulnerable people. Through a network of 7 regional zones and 34 provincial offices, with over 20,000 trained staff and volunteers, in collaboration with national and international organizations, the Afghan Red Crescent Society has managed to maintain its neutrality and has a reputation that enables its teams to carry out principled humanitarian actions across conflict lines, including in large parts of areas controlled by armed opposition groups. It is strengthened by the support of its partners, such as the esteemed International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other partners.

 

About Afghan Red Crescent Society( ARCS) 

Established in 1934, the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) is an independent, humanitarian institution which has been recognized by the government of Afghanistan as an auxiliary to State agencies. ARCS play an important role in delivering disaster response services. Under the 2016 Red Crescent Law, ARCS carry out its activities in accordance with the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary services, unity and universality. Among others, ARCS have the duty to provide assistance to disaster-affected communities, supply emergency shelter, and distribute relief items to vulnerable people. Through its network of 7 regional branches and 34 provincial branches and more than 20,000 staff and trained volunteers, ARCS is amongst the few national organizations with nation-wide outreach and access. Over the past decades, ARCS has managed to uphold its neutrality and enjoys acceptance enabling its teams to carry out principled humanitarian action across the lines of conflict, including in the large portions of the territories controlled by armed opposition groups. Job Description:

Objective:

The main objective of this role is to provide nutrition services to children and pregnant and lactating women within the mobile health team in the field to respond to the acute needs of mothers and children affected by crisis and/or conflict and most vulnerable populations in the host communities as well as supporting the team leader in managing the team in his/her absence.

 

 

Basic duties:

 

  1. Arranging and setting up a work plan in the child and maternal support department and the nutrition department, assessing the development of children under 5 years of age.

 Within the health clinic area

  1. Creating a suitable workspace, arranging and organizing the work area of ​​the nutrition department room, assessing the development of children under 5 years of age to conduct assessments of children in the public nutrition department, guiding and referring seriously ill patients to malnutrition treatment centers.
  2. Ensuring the correct implementation of daily activities in the child and maternal support department and the nutrition department, assessing the development of children under 5 years of age in the clinic
  3. Preparing reports on the activities of the Child and Mother Support Department and the Nutrition Department, assessing the development of children under 5 years of age at the Tohid Clinic, and sending them to the clinic manager at the appropriate time on a regular and ongoing basis.
  4. Implementing group and individual health education for beneficiaries on a daily and continuous basis
  5. Returning women of childbearing age to the relevant treatment center for completion of TT vaccinations and malnourished children
  6. Providing high-quality health services
  7. Serious attention has been paid to the maintenance of the equipment and facilities of the child and maternal support department, the nutrition department, and the assessment of the development of children under 5 years of age.
  8. Participation in educational workshops at the provincial and out-of-province levels
  9. Participation in special events if invited
  10. Sharing and collaborating with other health sectors in the event of health emergencies
  11. Provide infant and young child feeding (IYCF), promote growth monitoring and maternal nutrition counseling for all mothers, with a special focus on pregnant and lactating mothers/women.
  12. Increasing nutrition education for pregnant and lactating mothers of children receiving nutrition services
  13. Managing and holding food demonstration sessions in the community
  14. Screen and assess children aged 6 to 59 months and PLW for malnutrition.
  15. Providing specific advice to mothers of SAM and MAM children regarding appropriate complementary feeding at different stages of life.
  16. Responsible for carrying out all nutrition activities such as monitoring the growth of all children U2 years and screening children under five years and PLWs for acute malnutrition using MUAC or weight/height scale for children.
  17. Distribution of nutritional supplements for SAM and MAM children.

Job Requirements:

 

Conditions:

  • Having graduation certificates from accredited domestic or foreign health science education institutes in the field of higher nursing. 
  • Having professional skills in nursing, prevention, and public health
  • Work experience in the relevant sector: at least 1 year in the health, nutrition counseling and treatment sectors. 
  • Having self-confidence and commitment to work with the Afghan Red Crescent Society
  • Proficiency in national languages
  • Have passed the state nursing exam.
