The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), established in 1934, is an independent, humanitarian organization recognized by the Government of Afghanistan as a subsidiary to government agencies. ARCS plays a key role in providing disaster response services. According to the Red Crescent Law of 2016, ARCS conducts its activities in accordance with the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, solidarity, and universality. Among others, ARCS is mandated to assist disaster-affected communities, provide emergency shelter, and distribute relief items to vulnerable populations. Through 7 regional branches and 34 provincial branches and a network of over 20,000 staff and trained volunteers, ARCS is one of the few national organizations with a broad and nationwide reach. Over the past decade, ARCS has been able to maintain its neutrality and enjoy the recognition that its teams have carried out principled humanitarian action on the front lines, including in large parts of the territory controlled by armed opposition groups. With the support of the partners of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – ​​the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Norwegian Red Cross – ARCS has also been strengthened. Its management systems, procedures and partnerships are in place to respond to emergencies at the request of public authorities or on its own initiative.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society, established in 1934, is an independent and humanitarian organization recognized by the Government of Afghanistan as a charitable and impartial institution for government agencies. The Afghan Red Crescent Society plays an important role in providing voluntary services and humanitarian assistance. According to the law and the statutes, the National Society carries out its activities in accordance with its seven principles of philanthropy, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and inclusiveness. Among other things, the National Society is responsible for assisting affected communities, providing emergency shelter and distributing relief items to vulnerable people. Through a network of 7 regional zones and 34 provincial offices, with over 20,000 trained staff and volunteers, in collaboration with national and international organizations, the Afghan Red Crescent Society has managed to maintain its neutrality and has a reputation that enables its teams to carry out principled humanitarian actions across conflict lines, including in large parts of areas controlled by armed opposition groups. It is strengthened by the support of its partners, such as the esteemed International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other partners.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Dispensing medicine and providing necessary guidance on its proper use according to the prescription.
  •  Controlling the date of medication to preserve and maintain it and monitor its expiration date.
  • Requesting the necessary medicine with the advice of the mobile health team doctor to replenish the medicine.
  •  Obtaining medicine according to the request form.
  • Responsible for collecting accurate and timely figures on drug consumption.
  • Responsible for better regulation and storage of medicines according to the requirements of each medicine.
  • Ensuring the availability of medicines, medical and non-medical equipment for the mobile health team.
  • Arranging and setting the work plan of the pharmacy section of the mobile health team.
  • Regulating medicine stock and requesting timely provision of medicine.
  • Strict adherence to preventive hygiene conditions in daily practice.

Education, Experience and Skills:

The minimum requirements for this position are listed in the Afghan Red Crescent Society Law and Human Resources Procedures as follows:

  • Having Afghan citizenship.
  •    Documents of at least fourteen passes and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy approved by the Ministry of Public Health (passed the government examination).
  • Minimum two years of work experience in the Basic Package Health Services (BPHS) sector.
