About Islamic Relief Worldwide

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international, non-profitable, non-governmental humanitarian relief organization with its head quarter in Birmingham, UK. It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for International Red Cross and red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Summary

Islamic Relief began supporting the people of Afghanistan in 1992, working with local partners to run Ramadan and Qurbani food distributions. Since then, we have expanded our work, with now more than 600 staff members working across 19 provinces, including Badghis, Baghlan, Balkh, Bamyan, Daikundi, Farah, Ghor, Herat, Jawzjan, Kabul, Kandahar, Kunar, Kunduz, Laghman, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktika, Samangan, and Takhar.

The Islamic Relief Afghanistan Country Office is in Kabul, and Area Offices focused on managing regional operations are located in Jalalabad, Herat, Balkh and Kandahar.

Duties & Responsibilities

Main responsibilities

Translators

·      Provide written and audio translations (Dari-Pashto-English) and vice versa.

·      Proofread and edit documents for clarity and consistency.

All texts, including texts contained in figures, boxes, captions, sources and cover requires translation and proofreading.

·      Incorporating suggested changes to the translations after submission of the draft.

·      Ensure the high quality and accuracy of the terms and terminology used in the document before submitting it to the project officer.

·      Ensure the translation is written with style, correct grammar and spelling.

·      Complete the work within the agreed timeline and submit the final translation in both soft and hard copy.

  • Ensure confidentiality of information.

Photographers

  •  Visit the project area and produce high-quality photos, including context and portrait shots, with well-captioned text in a timely manner.
  • Collect B-rolls to develop various cuts of video and photo stories.
  • Produce 3-5 minute videos capturing key rightsholders voices/stories and messages to show the impact of IRW’s project.
  • Provide raw footage of all video footage and still images captured during the contracted period.
  • Edit photos/video professionally with Dari-Pashto and English language and subtitles as required.
  • Present the rough cut of videos to the Communication Unit for feedback, adjustments and approval.
  • Produce high-resolution pho Produce high-resolution photographs (minimum 100 shots) in raw forms.
  • Revise the content based on input by the communications unit.
  • Ensure rightsholders understand and sign the consent form.
  • Translations of all interviews with consistent time coding.
  • The content of all footage filmed is the sole property of IRW. The photographer will be credited for all the materials used.

Job Requirements

Translator

–         Higher education in linguistics,  communications, media, or other related field.

–         At least 3 years of similar working experience with the humanitarian community in Afghanistan.

–         Preference will be given to candidates with experience in translation work.

–         Desirable computer literacy (MS Word)

Requirements

Photographer

·      Higher education in Journalism and Mass Communications

·      At least 3 years of working experience in photo and video production, preferably with aid organisations in Afghanistan.

·      Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts through written and, where applicable, audiovisual storytelling.

·      Excellent knowledge of current developments and practices in communication, including digital media, indigenous media, community organisation and participation.

·      Broadcast quality full HD video

·      Professional and high-quality sound recording, lighting set, lapel mic should be used for interviews

·      High-quality cameras not less than 720 pixels.

·      Works with Premiere Pro Editing software and equipment
