Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

  • Produce maps and conduct spatial data analysis on climate, food security and nutrition, operational information and related topics.
  • Develop and maintain the RAM Unit’s spatial data infrastructure (SDI).
  • Build the capacity of Niger staff (CO and SO), and partners on GIS applications, mapping, geospatial vulnerability analysis as well as data management and visualisation.
  • Support CO in conducting Integrated Context Analyses (ICAs) in close collaboration with Programme Unit, technical partners and government.
  • Produce timely bulletins and analyses on seasonal weather patterns.
  • Support RAM Unit specially the targeting session  in implementing innovative geotargeting approaches using geospatial data, to inform the geographical targeting and prioritisation of WFP interventions.
  • Develop and maintain RAM information management products, incl. interactive dashboards on food security, Integrated Resilience Programme, climate, insecurity etc.
  • Engage and collaborate with technical partners at the country and regional level on information management, incl. through participating in the development and upkeep of Common Operational Datasets (CODs), within the framework of existing coordination forums (e.g. the Information Management Working Group).
  • Support the roll-out and enhancement of the country Platform for Real-time Impact and Situation Monitoring (PRISM), including through the integration of new datasets.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Requirements

Education: Advanced University degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geoinformatics or related field with 01 year of expérience, or First University Degree with additional years (3) of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

 

Language: Fluency (level C) in French. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of English.

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of GIS applications and tools and methods for geospatial analysis.
  • Practical experience in GIS and mapping in a humanitarian context.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of WFP GIS and geospatial analysis systems and standards.
  • Advanced skills and proficiency of ESRI ArcGIS or open-source GIS software and familiarity with a wide range of spatial data formats.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in operating cloud-based geospatial analysis environment (Google Earth Engine, AWS, Open Data Cube etc.).
  • Experience in developing web-based application for geospatial data processing and visualisations.
  • Experience with data management including organizing and maintaining complex projects containing geospatial and tabular data.
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills. Proficiency in using SQL, R, or Phyton is desirable
