AWEC has successfully implemented projects in Logar, Faryab, Kapisa, Khost, Panjshir, Wardak, Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan provinces, maintaining an active presence in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan.

Job Description:
The Project Manager will oversee the effective and timely implementation of all project activities, including protection and WASH components. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating multi-sectoral service delivery, ensuring safe access to services for women and girls, strengthening community structures, managing staff, maintaining compliance with donor requirements, and ensuring that all activities are implemented according to humanitarian principles and core protection standards.
Responsibilities:
Lead the planning, implementation, and supervision of project activities as per the approved work plan.
Oversee the establishment and operationalization of two semi-functional safe spaces for women and girls.
Ensure the delivery of multi-sectoral life-saving services, including integrated case management and PSS support to individuals.
Coordinate the distribution of Dignity Kits, ensuring prioritization of vulnerable groups, including women and girls with disabilities.
Support the design and delivery of community awareness sessions on protection issues to community members.
Supervise the rehabilitation of community water systems and gender-sensitive latrines and bathing spaces in targeted communities.
Organize and facilitate bi-monthly coordination meetings and training sessions with WASH Committees.
Ensure timely procurement, distribution of O&M kits.
Coordinate one-time chlorination of community wells or water networks.
Supervise and support project team members across all sectors, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
Review and standardize job descriptions for all project staff and update them to meet evolving needs.
Ensure all staff are adequately trained, especially in protection principles, safeguarding, and WASH standards.
Maintain regular performance appraisals and provide mentorship as needed.
Represent the organization at relevant OCHA and cluster coordination meetings (Protection, GBV, WASH).
Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and humanitarian partners to ensure coordination and support for project activities.
Foster strong community engagement and feedback mechanisms to improve accountability and ownership.
Ensure the timely preparation and submission of project reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, final).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and data in the Grants Management System (GMS).
Monitor budget spending against forecasts; ensure financial and procurement activities align with donor requirements.
Conduct regular monitoring visits to project sites and prepare visit reports.
Ensure that all project activities follow do-no-harm principles, core humanitarian standards, and protection mainstreaming guidelines.
Translate and review project-related documents when needed.
Organize and facilitate project orientation workshops for newly hired staff.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor that contribute to project success.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
A Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Economics, Public Administration, Project Management, law and political science and/ or a related field.(Master’s degree holders preferred).
A Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in project management in humanitarian or development settings. Strong background in WASH programming, including rehabilitation of water systems, hygiene promotion, and sanitation facilities.
Knowledge and Skills:
Familiarity with community-based approaches, awareness-raising, and outreach.
Skilled in using Grants Management Systems (GMS) for project tracking, planning, and reporting.
Fluent in Dari, Pashto, and English, both written and verbal.
Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong interpersonal, coordination, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability and willingness to travel to field sites and work in challenging environments.
Proven track record in team management, coordination, and budget oversight.
Excellent planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
Familiarity with donor requirements and humanitarian principles.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and flexibly while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
Strong report-writing and presentation skills.
