Position: Psychosocial Support Project Coordinator

Reports to: Education Coordinator – Emergency Response

Supervision of: PSS/BLP Project Officers

Duty station: Juba with frequent travels to the field

Travel: 90%

Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the Psychosocial Support Coordinator is to manage the EiE Psychosocial Support activities and to support the Education Coordinator implement the first phase education activities. The position will provide overall planning and implementation of the EiE Better Learning Programme (BLP) / Psychosocial Support (PSS) activities and will ensure proper spending for the project budget.

 

Generic responsibilities

Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, procedures, and guidelines
Implement delegated Education and Protection project portfolio according to plan of action
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
Ensure proper filing of documents and archiving them accordingly.
Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
Contribute to organisational learning through the provision of specific technical analysis, lessons learned and reports
Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy.
Provide PSS technical direction and ensure high technical quality of project activities.
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist

Specific responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus, and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

Prepare mission ToR, Work plan and all the other required documents before going to the field.
Coordination with Security Focal person, Security team, Partners on the ground and local authorities before team deployment.
Join the ERRM in multi and single assessment missions and capturing all the needed information as delegated by the line manager and in accordance with the Protection and Education requirements.
Prepare full detailed assessment reports based on the findings and as delegated.
Proper coordination with Protection and Education team on all levels.
Extend full support to other teams as needed and delegated by the line manager.
Provide all relevant psycho-social support training to staff, PTA, Key community members, teachers, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
Ensure appropriate psycho-social activities are provided for children, partners, and community leaders in the intervention locations in all activities (I.e., Education, child protection, youth empowerment).
In coordination with other team members, raise awareness for teachers, parents and other community leaders on children’s rights and children’s wellbeing.
Engage the community in all intervention phases and ensure their feedback to be taken into consideration and ensure protection, specifically child protection and child safeguarding concerns are identified and communicated in a timely manner to the line manager.
Ensure equal treatment of the beneficiaries and maintain confidentiality all the time as needed and required.
Ensure regular data collection and prepare the intervention reports on time capturing all the needed information and evidence.
Participates in projects reviews with beneficiaries, NRC staff and other implementing partners.
Budget monitoring and management throughout the project period.
Contribute and develop Education and Protection related project proposals, reports, and technical and financial documentation for submission to donors, internal and other external requirements
Support the other EiE implementing partners and ERRM teams in protection mainstreaming including ensuring safe and inclusive programming (SIP)

Relevant interfaces for this position are:

Other CCs (FSL, EiE, Protection, ICLA, WASH and Shelter).
Support (Finance, Procurement, Logistic and Security).

Scale and scope of position

Staff: The incumbent will supervise PSS Officers implementing project activities in target locations . Stakeholders: Key external stakeholders the post has relationships with UN agencies, INGOs, NNGOs, Protection and Education Cluster, State focal points, Local authorities, Community representatives, Donors, etc. Budgets: The incumbent does not have budget management responsibilities Information: Brief description of the information resources the post holder is responsible for at CO level NRC Intranet, Agresso, Kaya and other OKTA platforms. Legal or compliance: Brief description of any legal or compliance responsibility the post holder has; Term of employment, tender and awards committee for vendors, donor requirements.

Competencies

1. Professional competencies

 

Generic professional competencies:

Previous work experience in Psychosocial Support/Social Emotional Learning programs and teacher capacity building
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Previous experience operating NRC Better Learning Programme is desirable
Minimum 3 years of experience from a senior level project implementation and or technical position in a humanitarian/recovery context.
Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and verbal

 

 

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

Degree/Higher National Diploma in Education, Behavioral Sciences of related field.
Proven experience in the planning and execution of Protection mainstreaming and Psychosocial Support Programmes of at least 3 years’ experience in a humanitarian and development programme.
Knowledge of Child Protection, PSS, Psychosocial first aid (PFA),Case management.
Ability to initiate, develop, plan, and implement an integrated programme.
Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities.
Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills, including the ability to explain and present technical information.
Political and cultural awareness and experience of working where insecurity is a major issue
Ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking and multi-cultural environment and manage conflicting priorities.
Understanding of international health and development and relief issues
Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of displacement affected populations (Minority groups etc.)
Demonstrated experience of integrating gender and diversity issues.
Knowledge of any other local languages spoken in South Sudan is an added advantage.
