What we are looking for:
An experienced Protection from Violence (PfV) Specialist is needed to lead the technical development of the PfV Core Competency (CC) in Sudan, providing strategic direction, quality assurance, and oversight of the CC strategy and implementation. This role will include mentoring, training, and building the technical capacities of staff in Protection from Violence.
What you will do:
- Technical oversight of the relevant protection from violence team(s), including providing training, guidance and mentoring to conduct protection from violence monitoring, analysis and advocacy activities.
- Provide analysis of data collected through multiple sources and produce and recommendations regarding key protection trends and risks and monitor how they interact with NRC’s current and planned activities in Sudan and Sudan.
- In coordination with the HoP and Regional Protection Adviser, develop tools, SOPs, and provide advice on technical standards, including putting applicable information management systems and tools in place for quality assurance in line with PIM principles for the implementation of Protection against Violence Core Competency (CC) programming (including UDOC).
- Collaborate with other relevant internal partners, including access and advocacy colleagues and promote alignment, integration and multi-sectoral analyses and responses.
- Engage in humanitarian coordination structures, collaborating with other organisations and partners to ensure the protection programme is aligned with broader efforts to prevent violence and coercion.
- Identify the capacity building needs of project staff and partners within CC, and lead the technical training, capacity building and mentoring on minimum protection standards (NRC and global practices).
- Support organizational learning from programme implementation, sharing best practices within the CO, RO, and global CC initiatives. Prioritize programmatic linkages with other CCs and integrated programming.
- As NRC institutional requirement, support the mainstreaming Safe and Inclusive Programming in CC programme design (including within UDOC) and implementation to ensure safety, dignity, and ‘do no harm’, meaningful access and inclusion, participation and accountability to affected population principles are applied within the CC.
- Contextualize UDOC standards modalities – like Community Centers, Outreach- to the local context and needs.
- Strengthen area-based coordination mechanisms, leading where relevant the coordination among different actors.
- Ensure area based strategic local partnerships.
- Train and build the capacity of NRC PfV staff and identified local actors (local authorities, national/local NGOs, etc.) on UDOC approaches.
- Contribute to the establishment of functional internal and external referral mechanisms.
- Coordinate with Area Office management to ensure consistency and learning between the implementation and development of UDOC activities across the country in different potential settings (i.e. Collective Centres, Transit Site, Community Centres, etc.).
- Lead on the development of research studies and/or assessments to explore new thematic areas for SM-UDOC programming in Sudan and Sudan.
- In collaboration with PfV teams within the region, identify and initiate relevant regional and cross-border activities and common messaging.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of experience from a senior level project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Master’s degree in related field such as international law, international development, or social sciences (desirable). Candidates with bachelor’s degree in the preferred fields will be considered if relevant work experience considerably exceeds the minimum requirement of 4 years
- Strong knowledge of global protection standards and humanitarian principles
- Demonstrated experience in developing technical standards for core areas of protection from violence programming (including Site Management or UDOC experience); Experience in creating and implementing referral pathways
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile; ability to think strategically
- Solid understanding and experience of refugee crisis contexts
- Knowledge of the context in Sudan
- Fluency in English is required
- Experience with Start-up is an advantage
- Experience in the design and delivery of team capacity strengthening, including remote coaching, mentoring and training.
- Experience managing a complex protection programme including implementation, programme development, fundraising and budget development.
- Excellent understanding of key technical standards (IASC, protection mainstreaming, IHL, gender and humanitarian principles, donor markers on gender and disability etc.) and a demonstrated ability to integrate them into programming.
