Job Description:
ROLE PURPOSE:
This position is based in SCI Afghanistan CO. Job holder will be based in the Radio Room and reports to the Security Officer or the designate. At this level, job holder works in a team under minimal supervision and is expected to produce organized and accurate reports and technical work, especially in case of security incidents. This job may require working different shifts and report for duty on short notice.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate Radio Room and all communications systems.
• Coordinate with SCI security staff, to facilitate accurate and efficient security-related information flow following established standard operating procedures.
• Responsible for monitoring and channeling all security communications including tracking of SCI vehicles and staff movement to ensure efficient 24-hour coverage of telecommunications services.
• Produce regular and ad hoc reports including radio checks, SMS advisories, assist in preparation and dispatch of the summary of security incidents and other information to staff to facilitate accurate, efficient and concise communication and information flow.
• Create and maintain databases (e.g. lists of call signs, addresses, telephone numbers, wardens, etc.) to ensure accurate information is available at all times.
• Follow established SCI security and safety emergency response processes and procedures, to ensure prompt assistance in case of emergencies.
• Ensure that the SCI Security Management is always informed on location and movements of staff in area in accordance with established procedures.
• Report any irregularities of Radio Room communications network to Security Officer.
• Operate location tracking, monitoring, and emergency management systems.
• Report results of radio checks to Security Officer.
• Track daily movement of staff and maintain record sheet.
• Manage Radio Room in event of emergency, announcing security advisories to inform staff of situation and immediately account for al staff as required.
• Advise Transport drivers on any changes in local security restrictions.
• Hourly tracking of staff road missions and convoys and update Security Officer of mission progress.
• Provide efficient support and training to users on telecommunications equipment and procedures including Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) requirements, to ensure effective use of telecommunications equipment.
• Daily check of Radio Room occurrence/incident logbook.
• Assist in updating records as required.
• Perform administrative functions in Radio Room.
• Issue and receive vehicle keys, and office keys as required.
• Monitor security cameras as required.
• Maintain Radio Room filing system.

Additional job responsibilities

Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• High School graduate but bachelor’s degree is preferred with specialized skills and training in operation of radio communications equipment in a security environment.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant radio operation experience at the national or international level is required. SCI experience is an advantage.
• Good level of speaking and writing in English, Pashto, and Dari.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Knowledge of Sat phone, HF, UHF and VHF radio operation.
• Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel).
Desirable
• Must be proactive, flexible, hard working with irregular hours.
• Should be optimistic and a good listener.
• Dedicated to work in the interest of Children regardless of ethnicity, colour, race, gender, or other biased preferences.
