Mission and objectives
UNDP’s mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. We advocate for change, and connect countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with Bangladesh ever since its birth and through its remarkable journey from a war-ravaged economy to a middle-income country. It remains a catalyst in Bangladesh’s journey from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. UNDP assists in building institutions and helps strengthen institutional capacities through people-centric, pro-poor, inclusive and sustainable policy making and development governance.
Context
Since 1972, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been partnering with the people and communities of Bangladesh at various levels to build a resilient nation with strong focus on sustainable human development-led growth. Since its inception, UNDP and its partners accomplished key results in the areas of governance, poverty reduction, environment, energy and climate change, disaster management, and achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Over the years of dedicated partnership with government agencies and partners, UNDP Bangladesh is viewed as an honest broker, bringing about transformational changes in the lives and livelihoods of the people of Bangladesh. Equanomics, a UNDP’s global programme, aims to dismantle economic structures that are enabling gender inequality. It focuses on expanding care systems and services, developing gender-responsive policies, and generating data to influence policy. By supporting reforms in social protections, tax systems, and labor markets, Equanomics seeks to lift women out of poverty and ensure equal opportunities. The initiative promotes a shift in economic policies to create a more inclusive and equitable world. Equanomics is actively helping countries implement these changes, advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on gender equality.
