Mission and objectives
UNESCO plays a key role in promoting global peace, sustainable development, and and human well-being through science and international collaboration. It spearheads initiatives to tackle the Triple-Planetary-Crisis, with an emphasis on biodiversity, climate change, and natural resources management.
Context
The UNV will support numerous activities related to climate science literacy exhibitions, climate literacy radio programmes, environmental science seminars, as well as exhibitions, events, and publications related to blue carbon ecosystems
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Natural Sciences Unit, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Assist organizing seminars in a series called ‘Roots to resilience’, co-organized by UNESCO & UNEP, with multiple partners. 2. Assist identifying stakeholders for climate-science-literacy exhibitions, and the utiliza-tions of these exhibitions and associated guidelines, in schools, public places, univer-sities, government agencies and elsewhere. 3. Assist spreading climate-science-literacy radio messages into rural places of India, as well as into Nepal, and Kathmandu, and into the Maldives, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. 4. Assist identifying stakeholders for ‘Blue Carbon Ecosystem’ related meetings; events; conferences, and advancing publications on the same subject. 5. Assist mobilising extra-budgetary resources for climate-literacy and blue-carbon is-sues/activities. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Days, such as World Environment Day, World Mangrove Day, International Day of Blue Skies for Clean Air; World Biosphere Reserve Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

This assignment is funded by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and therefore only students currently enrolled at KIIT University are eligible to apply.

Skills and experience
• Demonstrated interest and/or experience in ecology, triple-planetary-crisis, human sur-vivability • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded. Preference will be given to the students from the Scheduled Tribes communities.

Living conditions and remarks
New Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region is a large and bustling metropolis of some 14 million people undergoing rapid changes. The capital city is an administrative, cultural and commercial center with modern amenities and well connected by air. It is a safe place with large expatriate community drawn from embassies, UN agencies, MNCs and foreign businesses. It has short moderate winter and long hot summer. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
