This position is located in the Safety and Security Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), duty station Juba which is classified as “E” category and as a non-family duty station. The Security Officer at the FS-5 level will report to the Supervisor of the Security Information Coordination Unit.
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Officer, FS-5, working in the Security Information Coordination Unit during the temporary period of assignment will be responsible for the following duties: • Assist in preparation, collation, and dissemination of daily security reports, • Assist in preparation of weekly assessment reports. • Contributes to the preparation and presentation of security briefings for visiting Senior UN officials, national security cell and meetings of the SMT. • Assist in management of security threat information database. • Conducts field visits as needed and Assists in preparation of thematic threat assessments as directed by the security information analyst. • Liaises and coordinates with UNSMS organizations security officers and security counterparts in STI collection and review. • Assesses prevailing local security conditions, identifying security trends and advising UN. • Conduct security risk assessment for the area of operations when required. • Maintains continuing lines of communication with security focal points and other UN or non-UN stake holders. • Conducts advance work and implement pre-established security arrangements. • Monitors and evaluates office physical security measures and conducts security surveys of installations and facilities; implements security arrangements. • Provides advice and training to UN personnel and eligible dependents on security matters, as assigned. • Investigates security-related incidents involving UN personnel, project personnel or eligible dependents. • Identifies gaps in existing capability and make recommendation for amendment where necessary. • Contributes to the planning process of protective services for Senior UN Officials, as necessary. • Performs other duties as required. Work implies frequent interaction with the following: •Mission leadership and other United Nations Officials; •Security personnel operating in the mission’s area of responsibility; •Personnel from Military and Civilian Police Components of the field mission; •Project Managers and other personnel; •Host Government officials and local law enforcement personnel. RESULTS EXPECTED: Effective planning, implementation, and coordination of a security system capable of enabling the conduct of United Nations activities while ensuring the safety, security and well-being of personnel and the security of United Nations premises and assets.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A certification of Security Information Analyst or in intelligence Analyst is required. UNDSS Security Analysis Process and Practice certificate is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police or security management is required. A minimum two years of experience in working with Intelligence or Information Units at the national or international level is required. At least one-year experience and exposure at the international level and in a conflict or post conflict environment is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
