Overview
The Senior IT Officer will lead the management and optimization of IT infrastructure, client systems, and advanced end-user support at the Jhpiego Ethiopia offices. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional with exceptional leadership skills, a proactive service-oriented approach, and the capability to navigate and resolve complex technical challenges. The Senior IT Officer will also support program activities, collaborate with the global IT team, and ensure alignment of country office IT activities with global IT initiatives. The ideal candidate will excel in fostering a collaborative environment, driving technological improvements, and ensuring seamless IT operations to support Jhpiego’s mission and objectives.
Responsibilities
Administration and Supervision
Supervise and mentor IT staff, providing guidance and support to ensure team efficiency.
Prepare regular reports on IT activities, asset utilization, and team performance.
Ensure adherence to IT policies and procedures, promoting best practices within the team.
Maintain a comprehensive inventory of IT hardware and software assets.
Oversee the management and allocation of loaner equipment.
Network Infrastructure administration.
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN, WLAN, WAN systems.
Troubleshoot complex network and system issues to ensure efficiency and performance.
Plan and manage upgrades and maintenance with minimal operational disruption.
Develop and implement IT disaster recovery and data backup strategies.
Configure, monitor, and manage server hardware, applications, and power backup systems.
Perform advanced diagnostics and management of server infrastructure and intranet services.
Manage and escalate issues with switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
Implement and maintain security measures to protect IT infrastructure.
User and Client System Support
Provide advanced technical support for hardware and software issues, ensuring timely resolution.
Manage the Help Desk system, ensuring IT Support SLAs are consistently met.
Integrate and manage end-user computers within the Azure Active Directory domain.
Ensure all end-user equipment is up to date with the latest security patches and updates.
Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations and changes.
Lead the configuration and management of M365 environments, ensuring efficient collaboration and communication.
Compliance
Enforce user compliance with IT policies and guidelines.
Adhere to Jhpiego’s IT Service Management processes.
Participate in and lead IT projects and scheduled activities.
Prepare and communicate system status reports with the Global IT teamUser Training
Identify common desktop and application support issues and provide targeted training for staff.
Conduct end-user training on Microsoft 365 and other cloud collaboration technologies.
Maintain and update the IT User Guide.
Other Duties
Perform additional tasks as necessary and assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
CompTIA A+ Certification.
CCNA Certification.
ITIL Foundation Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
7 years of experience in a similar role, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory position.
In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols, and network technologies.
Extensive experience with desktop and laptop hardware from major vendors.
Proficiency in supporting desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
Expertise in using and supporting Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other standard desktop applications.
Advanced troubleshooting skills for resolving complex technical issues.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
Ability to manage physical IT setups, including servers and other equipment.
Ability to travel within Ethiopia.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in supporting Windows client and server operating systems.
Experience with Microsoft 365 technologies, including Office 365 and Azure Active Directory.
Expertise in managing and supporting Windows servers and clients.
Experience with Cisco routers and switches.
Experience with SonicWall firewalls and access points.
