ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The hunger crisis in Afghanistan is unfolding at a rapid pace, with 15 million of population now facing acute food insecurity. Work opportunities are shrinking, with most households now reporting just one day of work per week. This comes on top of the worst drought in years, which is especially concerning for the 85 percent of the population who rely on agriculture for livelihoods. Preventing and mitigating a drastic increase in hunger and malnutrition is the aim of WFP in Afghanistan which can only be achieved through the scaled up and sustained complementary food security and nutrition interventions, combined with a scale-up of resilience interventions to safeguard gains. WFP has embarked on a significant month on month scale-up of its crisis response and resilience programmes across the country, ensuring that the programme is delivered at the right scale and time, targeted to the right areas. WFP is also actively following up on evolving trends to pre-empt hotspots, while guaranteeing quality and maximum impact of the programme through the monitoring of these hotspots to be able to support continued donor advocacy.
JOB PURPOSE
Senior Programme Associate (Nutrition) will report to the Nutrition Officer at the Area Office, and under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme Area Office and reporting the project senior associate will operationally support to the health- Nutrition – Immunization promotion project funded by the BMGF in WFP targeted districts of the country. The staff will work with the nutrition, emergency response and other relevant teams to ensure timely and effective execution of project activities in WFP designated Area Offices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
The staff must ensure timely and effective BMGF funded project implementation that includes the following key tasks:
- In close collaboration and communication with the Emergency Response and other WFP relevant teams, ensuresthat the BMGF funded project activities are included in the relevant partners’ FLAs.
- Coordinate with and support the Cooperating Partners for implementation of the project activities.
- Timely reports and notification to the CO about any changes in the project implementation affecting the project and reaching milestones in the targeted districts.
- Maintains regular communication and coordination with the regional GPEI colleagues and relevant focal points on the project implementation.
- In close coordination with the country office nutrition unit, attends the monthly humanitarian coordination meeting and project review meetings at the regional level.
- Ensure regular data collection, compiling and reporting data awareness sessions.
- Conducts regular supervisory and quality assurance visits from the project sites.
- Assist in organizing and conducting trainings in project related topics for Cooperating Partners.
- In coordination with M&E team, ensure appropriate execution of baseline and endline studies.
- Management and tracking of communication materials in coordination with logistics and partners to ensure timely communication on site as designed.
- Follow up of issues in filed and report to section in-charge.
- Regularly update project folders, prepare project reports as per the agreed timeline and format.
- Perform other related tasks as required and delegated by the supervisor.
- Coordinate with field office nutritionist/focal points, cooperating partners, and other unit team members to ensure effective and efficient implementation.
- Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Completion of secondary school education.
Higher education in lieu of work experience
Relevant, completed university degrees may be considered in lieu of experience with the following conversions:
- Completed Master’s degree: Equal to 1 year of work experience.
- Completed Bachelor’s degree: Equal to 2 year’s work experience.
- For female applicants, 1 or 2 years’ experience may be granted for partly completed studies prior to 2022.
Experience:
- At least 7 years of progressive relevant work experience.
Desired Experiences:
- Previous Working experience in the Health/Nutrition sector is highly desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong analytical skills with ability to conceptualize complex issues, analyze data, and produce thorough reports and policy recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively interact and work with partners and colleagues especially in a hardship environment.
Language:
- Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and local languages (Pashto/Dari)
