About Us

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international aid organization founded in 1933 at the instigation of Albert Einstein. Since then, the IRC has supported people affected by political crises, war, persecution, or natural disasters. IRC Germany was founded in 2016 and is active nationwide in the areas of education, career guidance, protection, legal advice, and participation.

In the Protection & Participation program area, IRC Germany will implement the AMIF-funded project “Families Shaping the Future” starting in November 2025. This project will support families with refugee and migration experience upon their arrival in Germany. The core of the project is regular parent groups for parents with refugee and/or migration experience. These offer participants the opportunity to discuss various topics related to the family’s arrival in Germany, questions about raising children and dealing with family stress, as well as to receive information about further support services for families. The goal is for parents to expand their network and empower each other so that they feel secure in their roles and are able to create a supportive environment for their children, actively support their educational paths, and utilize their own opportunities for social participation.

In addition to these group activities, the project promotes encounters between families from different backgrounds, reduces barriers to access to support services for families, improves communication and mutual understanding between parents and educational professionals in schools and daycare centers, and sensitizes family work professionals to the realities of life and the needs of families with refugee and migration experience.
