Student Assistant (m/f/d) Protection & Legal Advice

 

  • in Berlin or the Cologne/Bonn region | from January 15, 2026
  • Part-time (20 hours/week) | initially limited until September 30, 2026

 

 

About Us

 

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international aid organization founded in 1933 at the suggestion of Albert Einstein. Since then, the IRC has supported people affected by political crises, war, persecution, or natural disasters. IRC Germany was founded in 2016 and is active nationwide in the areas of education, vocational training and guidance, as well as protection, legal advice, and social inclusion.

 

In the area of ​​protection and legal aid, the IRC is committed, among other things, to expanding safe and regulated pathways to and protection for people displaced by persecution, war, and crises, as well as providing them with long-term residence and prospects in Germany. To this end, the program team implements casework and arrival support for asylum seekers. Within the framework of the Federal Reception Program for Afghanistan, the IRC supported particularly vulnerable Afghans in the application process and continues to provide guidance and casework for clients who are still in the process. With the end of the program and its implementation, the IRC is striving to continue facilitating the admission of those in particular need of protection.

 

To support this casework in the area of ​​protection & legal advice, IRC DE is looking for a student employee in Berlin or the Cologne/Bonn region on a part-time basis (20 hours/week) as soon as possible.

 

Your area of ​​responsibility

  • They support the legal advice management and the project team in coordinating casework, i.e., recording the number, status and responsibilities for all cases.
  • They also assist in creating case files based on the relevant documents/information provided.
  • They provide advice under the Legal Services Act and work together with team members on the formulation of legal texts, including statements of facts.
  • They conduct research.
  • They may also provide support with other project tasks, e.g., event planning.

 

Your profile

  • They are studying law in their 5th semester or higher.
  • They have knowledge and experience in the field of asylum and migration law, e.g. internship or involvement in (Refugee) Law Clinics.
  • Ideally, you have knowledge of humanitarian admission procedures.
  • They have German and English skills at least at B2 level.Common European Framework of Reference.
  • You are proficient in using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • They enjoy working independently and in a supra-regional team, as well as possess flexibility and improvisational skills.
  • You are enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the contract.
