How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the H&N Specialist P-4, the incumbent will ensure gender responsive programming during the planning, implementation, and monitoring phases across respective programs. The Gender Specialist will design and implement capacity building initiatives to build capacity of staff and will work in close collaboration with the Head of the Syria Immunization Group and WHO especially for the immunization components.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Provide technical assistance on the integration of gender into programme design and strategic directions phases across the various sectors and programs including within the immunization priorities (such he Big Catch Up – Measles Campaign in collaboration with UNICEF and WHO).
In collaboration with sectoral colleagues, lead on technical assurance and guidance for Capacity building initiatives for Community level providers and workers across the different sectors.
Identify opportunities to support the community health workforce and other Community level work force with a focus on community and support for female workers.
Support NW Syria in conducting a rapid gender analysis/ integrating gender as part of existing equity analysis.
Support NW Syria to plan and implement evidence-based advocacy for gender, health, and immunization reviews and planning based on the Rapid Gender Analysis.
Support the strengthening of data systems and collection, as well as accountability mechanisms to monitor and evaluate progress on gender results.
Support documenting lessons learned and good practices that reduce gender-related barriers on both the demand and supply sides.

Minimum requirements:
Education: An advanced university degree in gender and development, public health, global/international health and nutrition, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another healthrelated science field.
Work Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in gender and development programming.
Skills: Experience in health programme background with fair understanding on gender is an advantage.
A track record of achieving or contributing to tangible change in planning, designing, implementing, and delivering results-based programmes on gender and development.
Experience in conducting or supporting rigorous gender analysis, including quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, and applied gender measurement, monitoring, and evaluation.
Expertise in evidence-based advocacy and communication skills on gender equality.
Experience in a developing country programme in one or more of the following areas is required: public health, immunization, gender, adolescent girls’ nutrition, or maternal, infant, and child health care.
Experience in training and facilitation is an asset.
