Qualifications:

The Afghan Red Crescent Society, founded in 1934, is an independent and humanitarian organization recognized by the Afghan government as a charitable and impartial institution for government agencies. The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) plays a significant role in providing voluntary services and humanitarian assistance. According to the law and the statutes, the National Society conducts its activities in accordance with its seven principles: philanthropy, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and inclusiveness. Among other things, the National Society is tasked with assisting affected communities, providing emergency shelter and distributing relief items to vulnerable people. Through a network of 7 regional zones and 34 provincial offices, with over 20,000 trained staff and volunteers, the ARCS works in partnership with national and international organizations at the country level to alleviate humanitarian suffering. Over the past decades, the ARCS has managed to maintain its impartiality and enjoys a reputation that enables its teams to carry out principled humanitarian actions across conflict lines, including in large parts of areas controlled by armed opposition groups. Job Description:

Provide specialized technical support for pediatric and adult diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheter procedures: operate and maintain cath lab imaging equipment, prepare and manage procedure consumables and equipment, ensure radiation safety and sterile technique, and support a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, timely, and high-quality cath lab services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lab preparation : room layout, sterile field, preparation of instruments and equipment kits, contrast, and consumables; completion of pre-procedure checklists.
  2. Imaging Operations and Optimization : Operate and configure fluoroscopy and angiography systems; perform imaging and manage digital storage and archiving.
  3. Assisting during the procedure : assisting staff during the operation; preparing and administering instruments such as wires, catheters, balloons, sheets, and occluders; managing instrument exchange and maintaining sterile technique.
  4. Vascular access and hemodynamic monitoring : Provision of access trays, assistance with temporary pacing or external defibrillation, and management of hemostatic devices.
  5. Control of devices and consumables : Record device serial and batch numbers, monitor expiration dates, balance inventory, and ensure patient-specific tracking.
  6. Radiation safety implementation : use of shielding and collimation, monitoring dose levels, management of personal dosimeters, and reporting readings to the radiation safety officer.
  7. Room Cleaning, Reprocessing and Initial Troubleshooting : Ensure room cleanliness and disinfection; coordinate with Sterile Services and Biomedical Engineering for repairs and preventive maintenance.
  8. Emergency Support : Prepare equipment and coordinate with ICU/OT in emergencies such as device embolization, tamponade, or resuscitation.
  9. Quality and Training : Maintain procedure logs, participate in inspections and mortality and morbidity reviews, and train staff in workflows, equipment handling, and safety.
  10. Documentation and Communication : Maintain clear procedural documentation in English for the health information system and communicate effectively with the clinical team in local languages.

Job Requirements:

Required :

  • Diploma or certificate in cardiac technology, radiography, cardiac technology, clinical engineering or equivalent relevant health professional.
  • Practical experience in interventional imaging or cath lab technical roles.

Preferred :

  • Formal certification or training in cardiac catheterization technology, radiologic technology, or cath lab operations.
  • Advanced Life Saving and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Saving certification and pediatric cath lab experience.

Minimum experience

  • Minimum 3–4 years of experience in a cardiac cath lab or interventional imaging environment; documented experience with pediatric cases preferred.
  • Practical experience with angiography systems, vascular monitoring equipment and interventional consumables/devices.
