Job Description:

Job Summary

The Community Based Schooling (CBS) Trainer will support the effective implementation, supervision, and quality improvement of Community Based Schooling classes in selected communities across three districts of Kabul. The position focuses on ensuring access to safe, inclusive, and quality basic education for children in Grades 1 to 6 who are unable to attend formal schools due to geographic, social, or economic barriers.

The CBS Trainer Officer will provide technical support to teachers, trainers, and project staff through regular classroom monitoring, on site coaching, and structured training delivery. The role also contributes to curriculum alignment with Ministry of Education standards, teacher capacity development, community engagement, and smooth transition of CBS classes and learners into public schools. The position is full time and requires five to six working days per week, with regular field presence.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation and Field Oversight

Support the implementation of CBS activities in community based classes for Grades 1 to 6 across assigned districts.
Conduct routine and structured visits to CBS classes to monitor teaching quality, student participation, classroom management, and learning environments.
Provide on-site technical guidance and feedback to CBS teachers based on classroom observations.
Ensure CBS classes are functioning according to approved project plans, Ministry of Education guidelines, and donor requirements.
Oversee the proper distribution and utilization of teaching and learning materials, class kits, and student supplies.

Training and Capacity Building

Provide technical assistance in the review, development, and updating of training curricula, manuals, and handouts for CBS teachers and trainers.
Verify the final version of training materials and ensure consistency with Ministry of Education policies and CBE teacher training curricula.
Deliver and coordinate planned training sessions, refresher courses, and awareness sessions for project staff, trainers, CBS teachers, School Management Shuras, and community representatives.
Ensure all training sessions are conducted in suitable venues, training materials are distributed properly, attendance sheets are completed and signed, and training aids are used effectively.
Participate in capacity building trainings organized by the organization, Ministry of Education, or partners such as UNICEF, SCI and other IPs, when required.

Monitoring, Quality Assurance, and Transition Support

Monitor teaching and learning processes in CBS classes and support continuous improvement of instructional quality.
Support the clustering and linkage of CBS classes with nearby public hub schools.
Contribute to the development and implementation of transition plans for the integration of CBS students and teachers into public schools.
Support the inclusion of CBS data into the Education Management Information System (EMIS) in coordination with relevant authorities.
Ensure a smooth, timely, and sustainable transition of CBS classes in line with Ministry of Education requirements.

Community Engagement and Accountability

Support the establishment and functioning of community-based structures, including School Management Shuras.
Ensure that a functional Grievance Redress Mechanism is in place in all target districts, enabling parents, students, and community members to raise concerns, suggestions, and feedback transparently.
Promote community participation and ownership of CBS activities to enhance accountability and sustainability.

Reporting and Coordination

Prepare regular activity reports and submit them to the project coordinator.
Maintain accurate records of classroom visits, training activities, monitoring findings, and follow up actions.
Coordinate closely with project staff, district education authorities, and community representatives.
Perform other technical tasks assigned by the project coordinator.

Safeguarding and PSEA

Ensure full adherence to child safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policies.
Promote awareness of PSEA standards among teachers, staff, and community members.
Comply with the organization’s zero tolerance policy on sexual misconduct and related safeguarding requirements.

Job Requirements:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field is required.

Experience

Minimum of three years of proven experience in CBE or CBS and other development and review of training materials.
At least three years of experience delivering training sessions to teachers, NGO staff, government officials, or community representatives.
Demonstrated experience in training and supporting Community Based Education or Community Based Schooling teachers.
Previous experience working with NGO, INGO, or UN and SCI supported education programs is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of Community Based Education and Community Based Schooling approaches.
Familiarity with Ministry of Education policies, CBE frameworks, and teacher training standards.
Experience in classroom monitoring, teacher coaching, and education quality assurance.
Ability to support transition processes from community-based classes to public schools.
Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and reporting tools.

Soft Skills

Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with teachers, communities, and education authorities.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexibility and ability to work in challenging field environments.

Language Skills

Fluency in Dari and Pashto is required.
Working knowledge of English is an asset.

Other Requirements

Willingness and ability to travel regularly to assigned districts within Kabul.
Ability to work six days per week as required by the program.
Commitment to child safeguarding, gender equity, and inclusive education.
Willingness to sign and adhere to Child Safeguarding and PSEA policies and complete mandatory reference checks prior to contract issuance.
