Setting up and Reporting
The Economic Commission for Africa’s (ECA) mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. The mission will be guided by ECA’s five strategic directions which are: Advancing ECA’s position as a premier knowledge institution that builds on its unique position and privilege to bring global solutions to the continent’s problems and take a local solution to the continent; developing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation; designing and implementing innovative financing models for infrastructure, and for human, physical and social assets for a transforming Africa; contributing solutions to regional and transboundary challenges, with a focus on peace security and social inclusion as an important development nexus; advocating Africa’s position at the global level and developing regional responses as a contribution to global governance issues. This position is in the Publications, Conference and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD), Publications and Conference Management Section (PCMS), Travel, Transport and Visa Services Unit (TTVSU) of the Publications, Conference and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD) of the Economic Commission for Africa at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Travel, Transport & Visa Services Unit the Transport Assistant will be responsible for the following major duties and responsibilities l) Administrative Duties • Assists in the compilation of reports of the Sub-unit: • Handles and processes with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Transport and Custom’s authority all matters related to driving licenses and ownership transfer of vehicles of international staffs. • Prepares memo, letters and note verbal in relation to the above processes. • Assists drivers in the preparation of overtime, accident claims and other reports. • Processes and obtains on behalf of ECA staff : UN number plates, driver’s licenses, vehicles insurance and roadworthiness certificates: • Processes documents with local police authorities on loss of driving license, ownership booklet and plates. • Negotiates on matters relating to renewal of driving licenses, ownership transfer of vehicles insurance policies, insurance claims and road worthiness inspection: • Assists in the preparation and compilation of reports. Il) General Support Activities: • Provides back stopping for ECA Conferences by the operation of shuttle and courier services during large conferences. • Arranges and oversees roadworthiness tests for official vehicles. • Drives for ECA officials, other visiting UN staff and visitors. • Collection from and delivery of pouches to the airport, delivery of equipment for maintenance and repair; delivery of miscellaneous document to embassies, government offices and other locations. • Assists in the execution of technical evaluations for requisitions. • Alerts supervisors to impending changes to transport rules and regulations by virtue of contracts maintained with the transport authorities. lll ) Other • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures • Gives advice on vehicle’s conditions, maintenance requirements and rules in relation to Road Transport Authority.

Education
High school Diploma or equivalent is required. Driver training with a valid driver’s license.
Job – Specific Qualification
Third grade driving license is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. The minimum year of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in providing driving services for high-ranking officials or equivalent within the UN system or an international NGO is required. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles is desirable. Certificate of defensive driving training is desirable. Experience in driving high officials in convoys during high alert of security situation is desirable. Experience working at a basic level on a vehicle’s mechanical system is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of Qualified candidates may include technical assessment exercise which may be following by competency-based interview.
