About Organization
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2011 following South Sudan’s declaration of independence from Sudan. Its main objective is to support peace and stability in South Sudan.
UNMISS works closely with the South Sudanese government and other stakeholders to promote human rights, good governance, and sustainable development. Its mandate includes protecting civilians, monitoring and investigating human rights abuses, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and supporting the implementation of the peace agreement.
The mission is led by a Special Representative of the Secretary-General and has a military, police, and civilian component. The military component is responsible for protecting civilians, monitoring the ceasefire, and supporting the peace process. The police component is responsible for training and advising the South Sudanese police, and the civilian component is responsible for supporting governance, human rights, and development initiatives.
UNMISS is headquartered in Juba, South Sudan, and has regional and field offices throughout the country. The mission works closely with the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and other international partners to support peace and stability in South Sudan.
About UN Jobs in Sudan-TEAM ASSISTANT
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), BOR field office, is where this position is located. Through the Senior Civil Affairs Officer, the incumbent will report to them.
Responsibilities
– Provide general office support and administrative functions, including logistics support (travel arrangements, etc. for field trips and other front office logistics) ;
– Use standard software document processing packages to produce a variety of large, complex documents and reports;
– Respond to moderately complex information requests and inquiries (e.g answers requests requiring file search, etc.), and as necessary, refers inquiries to appropriate personnel for handling;
– Provide secretarial, administrative and logistics support to meetings, boards, committees, conferences, etc.
– Assist in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software;
– Review records, distribute and/or process mail and other documents; follow up on impending actions;
– Maintain a proper electronic and paper filing system;
– Operate and maintain a variety of office equipment in the performance of basic office functions, e.g photocopier, facsimile, printer, scanner, etc.
– Update contact lists and databases for the office;
– Draft routine correspondence and e-mails, and institute follow up action;
– Prepare and monitor the section’s leave plans to ensure continuous workflow while other staff members are on leave, especially during holidays periods;
– Consolidate monthly requests for office supplies for the office;
– Make photocopies as and when required;
– Undertake other duties as assigned and be willing to work beyond normal working hours;
– Backstop the Administrative Assistant;

Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of three (03) years of practical experience, with an organization or company, experience in general office support or related area is required.
Languages:
- The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency is necessary for the advertised position(s). It would be advantageous to know another local language.
