About UN Jobs in Ukranie-Associate Human Rights Officer

The Human Rights Officer works on assigned human rights activities to ensure that the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine’s (HRMMU) mandate is carried out, including monitoring and reporting on the human rights situation in Ukraine, identification of emerging and evolving trends of human rights concerns, and other related tasks. The Human Rights Officer is under the overall supervision of the HRMMU Head of Mission and the immediate supervision of the Head of Office in the geographical or thematic area of responsibility.

Functions / Key Results Expected

The National Human Rights Officer’s primary duties and functions are as follows, and they are under the general supervision of the Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and the direct supervision of a Head of Office in the region of assignment:

  • assist in the creation of a response strategy by helping to identify human rights issues/problem areas, developing and growing trends of human rights concerns and violations, as well as response and capacity gaps;
  • investigate, gather, record, and analyze data about the state of human rights in the assignment’s area;
  • Provide suggestions and counsel on human rights problems as they pertain to the mission’s activity in the assigned region;
  • create briefings, notes from interviews, analytical documents, and participate to the creation of various reports and paperwork;
  • Make sure that all actions are carried out in accordance with pertinent standards and work procedures, including those for information protection and safe handling;
  • supports the establishment of important ties and contacts to facilitate efficient communication and exchange regarding human rights concerns;
  • aid in the coordination of efforts with other pertinent stakeholders, particularly regional organizations, to carry out the monitoring mission’s mission;
  • Ensure that all tasks to be completed within the scope of responsibility incorporate gender and the globally recognized human rights;
  • Use the database and other information management tools created by OHCHR;
  • engage in mechanisms for sharing lessons acquired;
  • perform additional duties as directed by the Human Rights Officer and Head of the Monitoring Mission in the assigned region

UN Jobs in Ukranie-Associate Human Rights Officer Requirments

Education:

  • A master’s degree or higher from an advanced university in law, social or political science, international relations, or another pertinent field.
  • In lieu of the advanced university degree, a combination of relevant academic credentials and significant work experience—at a minimum, a completed Bachelor’s degree plus two years of significant relevant job experience—may be accepted.

Experience:

  • Up to two years’ worth of professional experience in fields connected to the promotion and defense of human rights. It would be extremely beneficial to have experience monitoring and reporting on the state of human rights and identifying pertinent technical cooperation needs in a crisis situation. Having local knowledge is advantageous.

Languages:

  • fluency in Ukrainian, Russian, and English, both verbally and in writing.
