About Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is responsible for promoting health, preventing illness, and providing assistance and guidance to countries on health-related matters. It was established on April 7, 1948, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

WHO has a global mandate to provide leadership on public health issues, including the development of health policies, guidelines, and standards; the monitoring and assessment of health trends; and the coordination of international health responses. It also works to promote health equity and to address health inequities, including those related to social and economic factors.

WHO has six regional offices worldwide, including the Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), the Regional Office for the Americas (AMRO), the Regional Office for South-East Asia (SEARO), the Regional Office for Europe (EURO), the Regional Office for Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO), and the Regional Office for Western Pacific (WPRO). WHO collaborates with other UN agencies, governments, non-governmental organizations, and other partners to achieve its goals.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO has played a crucial role in providing guidance and technical support to countries, coordinating the global response, and promoting research and development of vaccines and treatments.
