About UN Jobs-Information Technology Specialist
In preparation for the 2020-2024 electoral cycle, which includes the 2023 harmonized elections, the Zimbabwean government and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) requested assistance from the UN in boosting ZEC’s capability. As a result, the 2016–2020 Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Capacity Development (ZIM–ECO) project was modified by UNDP and ZEC, culminating in Phase Two (ZIM-ECO2).
The project wants to help with four outcomes at this stage:
- Strengthened ZEC’s ability to successfully carry out electoral processes
- More transparency and accountability in the electoral process
- Elections help promote inclusive decision-making.
- Election-related violence is decreased, and there is peace and fairness for all parties involved.
In these result areas, ZIM-ECO2 plans to carry out 15 activities, the majority of which leverage information and communication technology (ICT).
Based on the success of Phase One, ZEC continues to implement the project with full assistance from the UNDP Zimbabwe country office. In order to provide project management services and technical guidance in the agreed-upon areas, UNDP additionally developed a six-person management team. This includes a national IT specialist given the significance of ICT for the project’s work.
The IT specialist will provide support and advice for all project-related tasks. This will guarantee the project’s IT solutions, including those for voter registration, voter education, monitoring, and evaluation, are relevant, efficient, and effective.
