About UN Jobs-National Project Coordinator

The project will directly target smallholder farmers in the five provinces (namely, Eastern, Lusaka, Muchinga, Southern, and Western), specifically the following 16 districts: Mambwe, Nyimba, Chongwe, Luangwa, Chirundu, Rufunsa, Chama, Mafinga, Kazungula, Siavonga, Gwembe, Namwala, Shangombo, Senanga, Sesheke, and Mulobezi. There will be around 946,153 direct beneficiaries.

The initiative aims to strengthen smallholder farmers’ resistance to climate change threats in target Agro-Ecological Regions. The project will make targeted interventions to capitalize on opportunities to strengthen and promote viable climate-resilient value chains relating to smallholder agriculture in the target regions, with a particular focus on gender-sensitive value chains that provide viable economic opportunities for women.

UN Jobs-National Project Coordinator  Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day project management for optimal project activity implementation at the field level, including budget tracking.
  • As needed, coordinate the collection of necessary primary and secondary data from the district and community levels.
  • With a landscape perspective, assist in the implementation of project activities at the district and community levels.
  • Facilitate wider replication of successful adaption strategies and technological options among farming communities.
  • On a daily basis, communicate with the project team at the national and district levels, as well as implementation task groups, and provide feedback to the relevant project partners, consultants, and other project staff.
  • Create effective collaborations with the government, local governments, bilateral and multilateral donors, NGOs, civil society, and other UN agencies to assist farmers’ resilience and climate adaptation efforts.
  • Contribute to the preparation of a strategy engagement document for the FAO Zambia Office through engagements with key stakeholders in the climate change domains relating to sustainable agriculture development.
  • Contribute to the creation of accurate and timely reporting on program and activity activities that allow for informed decision-making and information consistency.
  • Liaise with internal peers to ensure effective collaboration and project monitoring linked to climate change and adaptation.

UN Jobs-National Project Coordinator Requirements

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in agriculture or its equivalent, as well as field/on-farm expertise in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of field demonstrations, climate change adaptation programs/activities, and project management.

Experience:

  • It is preferable to have 5 years of experience performing field trials/demonstrations and managing field-level projects.

Languages:

  • Working knowledge of the English language [i.e. spoken and written]
