Job description

Overview of position The SBC program in UNICEF Afghanistan currently uses a third-party company (LTA with CTG) to manage a network of social mobilizers (SMs) who are contracted to conduct community engagement sessions. This modality has technical and administrative/operational limitations, as the TPC plays merely the role of a recruitment agency with no ability to provide technical backup support, liability to facilitate programmatic support to SMs in planning and implementing Community Engagement (CE) sessions nor in resolving issues SMs face in the field. 

 

 

 

SBC Extenders have been supporting the overall management and implementation of SBC interventions through social mobilizers and have good technical and background experience, as well as they have established good working relationships and coordination with the line departments.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Role objectives Scope of SBC social mobilizers for ARI response:

 

 

1- Facilitate coordination and connection, community anchoring, and linkages between the community resident, service providers, and other community platforms. 

2- Community engagement and social mobilization.
3- Conduct/facilitate the AAP interventions and social listening activities.
4- Reporting and documentation of interventions.
5- Monitoring of interventions and coordination

 

 

 

Activities and Tasks to be performed by SM:

 

 

 

 

  • In close coordination and support of SBC extender preparation of a detailed monthly work plan for the grandmother group on the provincial level   
  • Close coordination with health Shura, CHSs, CHWs, Nutrition Counsellors, School management Shuras, community influencers, Madrasa teachers, and FHAG to support ARI activities.   
  • Regularly attend monthly meetings of local health shura and share the issues and progress updates.  
  • Conduct and attend regular meetings to discuss ARI-related issues with SBC Technical Extenders and SBC IPs monthly and ad hoc basis. 

     

     

  • Conducting and facilitating follow-up meetings with community influential people and networks within the communities.

     

     

  • Conduct and facilitate community engagement sessions with households and communities on life-saving behaviours as well as healthy and protective behaviours related to Acute respiratory infection.

     

     

  • Provide information about availability and utilization of services to communities.

     

     

  • Inform communities about the available mechanisms and channels to provide feedback on available services.

     

     

  • Engage community structures/ key influencers and communities in collecting/responding to community feedback.

     

     

  • Prepare activity report according to the established format and submit it to his/her supervisor.

     

     

  • Identify the best success stories of SBC interventions, collect testimonies from beneficiaries and submit them to the supervisor for further documentation.

     

     

  • Monitor and supervise the SBC interventions and ensure the implementation of the activities base on the plan SBC and 

     

     

  • Follow up on the distribution of relevant supplies to households.

     

     

  • Ensure local coordination and collaboration with key actors (s) such as the de-facto authority, CSOs, and others.
