Overview
Jhpiego is a non-profit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative healthcare solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts, and local communities, we build health providers’ skills and we develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families.
Pursuant to this mission, Jhpiego Kenya would like to document maternal healthcare videos from identified projects. We wish to enlist highly skilled consultant(s) to provide videography services. This consultancy will be undertaken within ten working days spread over a three month period.
Obstetric Fistula (OF) is a devastating injury sustained during childbirth. Preventing and managing OF contributes to the SDG 3 of improving maternal health. In Kenya, OF continues to affect thousands of women with this debilitating condition. It’s estimated that more than 24000 women and additional 3000 per year are suffering from this condition. Even though the local prevalence is difficult to quantify, UNFPA and MOH estimated in 2004 that 3000 new fistula cases occurred each year, with approximately 1 – 2 fistulae for every 1000 deliveries in Kenya. Of the approximately 2,500 women who do access care, only around 730 OF cases are surgically treated each year due to lack of surgical capacity, resulting in an intractable surgical backlog of OF cases. Despite the achievements in obstetric fistula (OF) care in Kenya, there remains a lot of challenges in ending obstetric fistula among Kenyan women.
Jhpiego with funding from Johnson and Johnson is collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MoH) division of reproductive and reproductive health (DRMH) and county government of Makueni department of health in setting up a fistula repair center in Makueni County Referral Hospital.
