400 Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Program for the 2026–2027 school year
Applications are being accepted for the esteemed Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2026/27 by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong. The program, which was started in 2009, draws the most talented students from all around the world to pursue innovative PhD studies at top universities in Hong Kong. More than 3,800 gifted scholars from more than 100 nations and regions have visited Hong Kong as a result of the Fellowship throughout the last 16 rounds. Internationally renowned PhD programs in the humanities, business, social sciences, engineering, medicine, physical sciences, and cutting-edge subjects including artificial intelligence, robotics, sustainable energy, fintech, and nanoscience are available to fellows.

Eligibility Criteria of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Program:
This scholarship requires the following qualification:
- come from any nation on earth. No limitations on citizenship
- Looking to start a full-time PhD program at one of Hong Kong’s eight participating universities
- No limitations on previous employment history or ethnicity
- fulfill the prerequisites for admission set forth by the chosen university, which often consist of the following:
- Possessing a research degree, a teaching master’s degree, or a first-class honors bachelor’s degree
- Improved command of the English language
Benefits of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Program:

- A stipend of HK$340,800 (US$43,690) per year
- The annual expense of travel for research and conferences is around HK$14,200 (USD 1,820).
- The university will provide extra assistance to candidates seeking a PhD that will take more than three years.
How to apply:
- In order to receive a reference number, candidates who are interested in applying to this program must first submit an online application via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System.
- Applicants can send their completed applications to the aforementioned universities after obtaining the reference number. Candidates may choose from one or two universities’ programs.
