Description of the Opportunity

The Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Program for 2025–2026 is now accepting applications. Every year, the Aga Khan Foundation provides a number of postgraduate scholarship programs. This scholarship program is open to students from underdeveloped nations with exceptional educational credentials who have no other means of funding their further education. The scholarship seeks to cultivate successful scholars and leaders and equip them for work, mostly in AKDN.

Every year in June or July, the scholarship is awarded through a competitive application process with a 50 percent grant and 50 percent loan component. Applications for Master’s degree programs are given preference by the Aga Khan Foundation for this scholarship award. However, only exceptional candidates who have received high marks from their teachers and who need a Ph.D. to achieve their career goals will be given consideration for Ph.D. course requests.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be citizens of the following nations, be native to these nations, be enthusiastic about studies relevant to development, and have no other means of funding their additional education.In addition to France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, eligible nations include India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique.Applicants from qualified nations who reside in a nation with Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB) offices may submit an application.Candidates under 30 will be given preference.

Selection Criteria:

The following are the primary factors used to select the winners:

Outstanding academic credentialsNeed for moneyadmission to a course of study or university of great repute.pertinence of the chosen subject of study to the focus area of AKDN.
Along with the aforementioned four factors, the participants are evaluated based on their ability to achieve their goals, their ability to succeed in a foreign academic environment, their accomplishments and extracurricular interests, and their careful and cohesive presentation of their educational and career plans.

Additionally, candidates are expected to have a few years of expertise in a similar industry.

Benefits:

The foundation only assists with living expenses and tuition for students. Travel expenses will not be covered by the scholarship award.Ph.D. program applicants will only receive support for two years.Participants’ needs will be taken into account when determining assistance.The amount requested from the foundation should be kept to a minimum because applicants are also encouraged to try their utmost to secure funding from other sources.Priority will be given to applicants who received some of the funds from other sources.

Loan Terms:

Half of the scholarship money is provided as a loan, which needs to be repaid with a 5% annual service fee. The loan agreement needs to be co-signed by a guarantor. Six months after the study period is funded by the foundation, the five-year repayment term starts.

Application Deadline:

All applications must be submitted by March 31, 2025. Internal deadlines for examining and evaluating the applications, however, may be sooner in some nations. Since internal deadlines and requirements differ by region, interested candidates are asked to get in touch with the local offices. Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

Application Process:

This scholarship program has a decentralized application process. Each year, during the application period, students can obtain the application forms from Aga Khan offices or Aga Khan Education Services or Boards in the nations where they currently reside. You have to send the completed application back to the organization that provided it.
