ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Exchange Programme 2026

Young neuroscientists can perform and receive training in basic, clinical, or applied research linked to multiple sclerosis (MS) through ECTRIMS’s postdoctoral research fellowship exchange program. Each year, no more than two fellowships will be given out.

Eligibility Criteria of ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship:
This scholarship requires the following qualification:
- Physicians and scientists with an MD, Ph.D., Sc.D., or an equivalent professional degree, or those pursuing one, are eligible.
- Prior to starting the fellowship, candidates must have earned their advanced degree or degrees.
- Fellows must have completed no more than a year of postdoctoral training at the same mentor or host institution at the time of application. At the time of application, senior candidates may have no more than five years of postdoctoral experience beyond their final degree (Ph.D., MD, ScD, or equivalent).
- Successful applicants will typically be under 40 at the time of application; however, there may be exceptions in certain situations.
- Although postdoctoral research training must be completed in a European laboratory or clinic, citizens of any nation are eligible to apply to this program.
Length of award or awards:
- Fellowships for one or two years will be offered.
- Fellowships for less than a year will only be given consideration in certain exceptional situations, which must be specified throughout the application process.
- Fellowships are often started in conjunction with the start of the autumn school year.
Selection Standards:
- Qualifications, academic background, and assessment of the career plan of the candidate
- Qualifications and attributes of the host institution and mentor for the proposed fellowship
- The suggested research plan, which includes evaluations of the fellow’s home institution’s references and mentor’s letters of recommendation, perceived viability, scientific excellence, and inventiveness, among other things.
Benefits of ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship:
This scholarship provides the following benefits:
- Each fellow will receive a salary of €55,000 per year from the fellowship.
- No cost-of-living rise is anticipated in the second year of a two-year fellowship tenure; the stipend is meant to cover the fellow’s living earnings.
- The host institution is supposed to offer healthcare benefits as well as other advantages.
- It is anticipated that the mentor or host institution will support the actual research that is to be conducted there.
