Description of Opportunity
Scholarships from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) are available to foreign students from various regions who want to study in Germany in a variety of subjects. In addition to demonstrating outstanding academic performance, the students must be steadfast in their will to conform to and uphold the principles of social democracy. The scholarships, which come with a comprehensive seminar program to help improve the candidates’ academic abilities and social merit, are given to extremely engaged overseas students.

Preferred candidates are gifted students from Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. It is anticipated that the candidates will exhibit a resolute dedication to social democracy and pledge an academic or professional career.

Benefits of the FES Scholarship
Winners will benefit from the program as follows:
- International students receive a monthly allowance of Euro 830 for a Bachelor’s, Diploma, Master’s, or state examination program.
- An amount of Euro 850 for the Master’s course.
- Health insurance expenses are covered.
- A family allowance of Euro 276 for scholars who have a child and
- Individual assistance by an on-site liaison lecturer is another benefit of this program.
Eligible Countries: Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states, and eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries
Application deadline: Applications can be submitted anytime, but early submission is preferred. However, there are specific deadlines for different courses and semesters, which are detailed here.
Academic and Eligibility Requirements
- Admission to study or enrolling at a state or state-recognized higher education institution in Germany
- Adequate German knowledge, though courses are English-medium. This means “German language examination for university entrance “of at least DSH level 2, ‘test German as a foreign language’ of at least level 4, or a ‘certificate C 1’ by a Goethe Institute.
- Excellent school or academic merit (first-rated proof of academic achievements where needed).
- Political and social engagement and commitment to the values of social democracy
- Responsible, inspiring, and trustworthy applicants interested in being involved in the Foundation’s network
Application Process
The online application process is available for this scholarship. You must think about the actions listed below:
Step 1: Fill out an online application
Complete the online application.Provide answers to inquiries about your family history and profession.Speak with 480 reputable academics for advice if necessary.Get sample applications for different types of funding here.
Step 2: Submission of Documents
If accepted, an email requesting more papers is sent.Send in two reports from university professors who are experts.Give details about your prior schooling and political involvement.Document upload requests will take three weeks, and six weeks if reports are required.You can download a list of necessary materials as well as instructions for preparing reports in PDF format.
Step 3: Individual Interviews
Candidates who made the short list were invited to two interviews.Interviews were done by the selection committee members and the department lecturer.There are preparation tips for interviews included.The list of liaison lecturers and committee members can be found in the yearly report on the FES website.
Step 4: Last-Minute Choice
Acceptance is determined by the selection committee.The group convenes several times year to make decisions.
