Japan MEXT Scholarship for Afghanistan Students 2026:

For students from Afghanistan and other nations who want to study for master’s or doctoral degrees in Japan, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers fully supported scholarship possibilities. Those who intend to start their research or academic studies in 2026 are eligible for this prize. MEXT Scholarships are given out based on recommendations from universities and embassies. MEXT Scholarship Benefits

The following costs are covered by the fully financed MEXT Scholarship of Japan:

  • A monthly living expenditure allocation of around 143000 yen (for non-regular students and those in preparatory programs), 144K yen for master’s degree students, and 145K yen for doctorate students (approximately $1000)
  • For grantees studying or conducting research in specifically designated regions, the monthly scholarship amount will be increased by a supplemental regional stipend of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen.

For whom are MEXT Scholarships available?

In order to be eligible for the MEXT scholarship program, candidates need to:

  • Be a citizen of Afghanistan who is under 35 years old (applicants from other nations can get in touch with the Japanese embassy in their nation).

  • The Aga Khan Foundation will work with the Japanese Embassy in Afghanistan to conduct the selection process.
