John Thompson International Scholarship in Ireland 2025/2026:
This scholarship, which pays for DCU’s full-time MSc in Digital Marketing program annually, is available to one student, whether they are from the EU or not. In honor of John Thompson, a distinguished Irish newspaper owner, this scholarship was established in 2008. Throughout his nearly 30-year career in the industry, John played a pivotal role in the founding and commercial expansion of some of Ireland’s most iconic and popular magazines, including U Magazine, The Sunday World, and The Irish Farmers Journal.
His previous positions included Managing Director of Independent Star Limited, the company that created the Irish Daily Star, and Chief Executive of Associated Newspapers Ireland, the publisher of the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail on Sunday. Because they both promote consumer involvement and open doors for businesses to thrive, John thinks that marketing and journalism complement each other the best. This scholarship intends to develop linkages between digital marketing and online journalism by encouraging graduates of business, journalism, and other diverse educational backgrounds to study digital marketing combined with an awareness of media and online journalism.

- Candidates for the scholarship must also be knowledgeable about and interested in business, marketing, journalism, and media.
- Additionally, candidates must fulfill the MSc Digital Marketing program’s academic and admission requirements.
