Eligibility
- Students may apply if their nation has diplomatic ties with Japan.
- A high school degree is necessary for undergraduates, a bachelor’s degree for master’s, or a master’s degree for PhD applicants at the time of admission.
- Strong academic credentials and outstanding research potential are required.
- Proficiency in either English or Japanese is necessary, depending on the program.
- Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1989, for most programs.
- Applicants must meet the Japanese government’s health requirements.
How to apply:
- Check the eligibility requirements: Verify that you meet the requirements for eligibility.
- Prepare the required documentation: Gather the necessary documents, including your academic transcripts, research proposal, recommendation letters, degree certificates, and proof of your proficiency in either Japanese or English.
- Apply to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate: Send your completed application to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your home country within the designated application period, which is typically November to January.
- Proceed with the preliminary screening: Take part in the preliminary screening, which includes a written exam, an interview, and a review of the documentary.
- Wait for MEXT’s decision: If your application passes the first screening, MEXT will evaluate it in cooperation with Osaka University.
- You will be notified of the scholarship award by February of the subsequent year.
