Opportunity Details

To draw outstanding candidates to Newcastle University, the South Asia Excellence Scholarship was established. This merit-based accolade recognizes students who have excelled in the classroom and inspires them to continue pushing themselves to become the greatest version of themselves. A scholarship will be given to students who are admitted into a qualified, non-quota program and start their studies at the University of Newcastle right away.

Benefits:

  • The scholarship is worth AU$10,000 for each year of full-time study, divided equally across the courses pursued (pro-rata with an approved load reduction on program plan, credits exemptions, progression or wellbeing grounds).
  • This translates to AU$1250 per 10 units of study and will be applied as a tuition charge reduction against the amount of credits originally provided in your letter of offer each semester.

  • The mentioned scholarship amount and the number of available scholarships are simply estimates. The exact cost will be determined by the length of the program and continued eligibility.

Selection Criteria:

No application is required for this scholarship.

Scholarships are automatically applied for upon application to the University (where eligibility criteria is met).

Successful students will receive notification of the value of their scholarship with their offer and should review the full terms and conditions, advising the university if you do not wish to accept.

Scholarship offers will be made on the basis of academic merit. All academic merit determinations are determined according to the University’s procedures for determining ATAR and GPA.

Students who do not receive an offer of the scholarship will not be eligible for the scholarship. Internal transfer students who are studying at an Australian or Online campus and were not previously awarded the scholarship will also not be eligible.

Quota programs excluded from this scholarship are:

  • Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Diagnostic Radiography)
  • Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Nuclear Medicine)
  • Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Radiation Therapy)
  • Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine
  • Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Podiatry.

The University reserves the right not to award the scholarship.

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

Eligibility Criteria for Newcastle University Scholarships in Australia for South Asian Countries:

  • To be considered for this scholarship, you must satisfy the following requirements:
  • Have a passport from a South Asian nation that is eligible, such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.
  • Start an appropriate undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University (excluding ELICOS, Enabling, Non-Award, Higher Degrees by Research programs and programs delivered at offshore campuses).
  • Be a full-fee paying international student.
  • As stated in your Letter of Offer, you must begin a qualified program at an Australian or online campus.
  • Not be the recipient of a separate Institution scholarship unless the university has granted previous approval for a specific dispensation.
  • If your scholarship eligibility is not maintained, you must meet all of the financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including the full tuition fee and other expenses for the purpose of obtaining your student visa.
  • Not enrolling in a quota-exempt program (see selection details).
