The University of Alberta’s 2025 Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship 2025:
International doctorate candidates are now able to apply for the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship at the University of Alberta. The Killam Trusts Scholarships provide $45,000 for the University of Alberta’s Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship.
This one-year grant, which is renewable in the second year, is open to exceptional students enrolled in or eligible for a doctorate program. Students can also receive a certificate of appreciation and any appropriate International Graduate Differential Fee.

Benefits:
- For the first two years of the program, the value can reach $45,000 per year; if applicable, international graduate differential feesA certificate attesting to their award will be given to scholarship recipients.
- Either September 1, 2025, or May 1, 2025, must be the start date of the scholarship.
- Funding for the second year is subject on fulfilling qualifying requirements and submitting and approving the renewal request via the GSMS Awards Portal, six weeks prior to the conclusion of the first funding year.

Qualifications
To be considered for the 2025 Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- Erolled in or eligible to enroll in a PhD program through the sixth year;
- Note: The amount of months completed during the Master’s program can be applied toward the Doctoral program for students who transfer from a Master’s to a Doctoral program.
- Having been enrolled in a PhD program full-time for a minimum of 18 months as of May 2025; must have finished the PhD program no more than 48 months by December 31, 2024; possess the citizenship of any nation; apply for all university-available fields; and have first-class academic status equivalent to a 3.5 GPA; must have finished a minimum of one year of graduate coursework toward a master’s or doctorate degree by May 1st or September 1st.
