To qualify for these programs, candidates must meet certain criteria. They must either be enrolled in a university or graduate school, have attended courses in the last 12 months, and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies when joining IFAD through the program. Alternatively, they can have recently completed university studies at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Additionally, candidates must be fluent in English, with fluency in other IFAD official languages considered an asset. In certain cases, such as for interns recruited in IFAD country office locations, fluency in the main country language may be required. Furthermore, candidates must be 30 years of age or younger, with the EIP program designed to enhance the geographic distribution of staff at IFAD by accepting candidates who meet the above eligibility criteria and are not based in Rome.
Interns selected for the EIP program receive additional benefits beyond their monthly allowance, including a housing and travel allowance. These programs provide a valuable opportunity for young professionals to gain hands-on experience in their field of interest and make meaningful contributions to IFAD’s mission of eradicating rural poverty and hunger.
