UNICEF Bangladesh Country office seeks an experienced Senior Driver, responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services to the office, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol, whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

How can you make a difference?

The Senior Driver, at the G-3 level, provides reliable and safe driving services to the office, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol, whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

The incumbent demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

1. Reliable and safe driving services for staff and officials:

  • Drive senior staff, UN staff, and high-ranking UN officials and visitors, ensuring the provision of reliable and safe driving services.
  • Meets senior official personnel and visitors at the airport and may assist with basic visa and customs formalities and arrangements when required.

2. Maintenance of assigned vehicle:

  • Ensures vehicle is always kept in good running condition through addressing minor repairs, making arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, checking of tires, brakes, water levels, and car washing.

3. Documentation of vehicle-related information:

  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.

4. Other duties:

  • The senior driver supports the sub-unit of Transport in daily activities as needed and required. S/He acts in an exemplary manner and conveys messages from his line of supervision to all drivers and ensures issues are addressed. This leadership role is critical.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A secondary education is required, along with a valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
