About Senior Research Associate, Agronomist – INGO Jobs in India:

The International Potato Center (CIP) is looking for a dynamic Agronomist to work as a Senior Research Associate in Patna, Bihar, India to help with the implementation of the project “Potato production through zero-tillage with straw mulch: an innovative technology for sustainable intensification and diversification of rice-based systems to improve livelihoods of small-scale farmers in Asia.”

The successful candidate will direct and carry out the project’s implementation strategy in order to contribute to research publications. In CIP’s regional office in New Delhi, India, and headquarters in Lima, Peru, the candidate will work with interdisciplinary science teams. This position will be based in Patna, Bihar, India, and will report to the Project Manager/Project Investigator.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage a team of researchers and technicians who are carrying out a project to ensure its proper development and outcomes.
  • Generate scientific articles for submission and publication in order to contribute to the dissemination and understanding of the research effort.
  •  Provide oversight and guidance to researchers to contribute to their professional development and research projects deliverers.
  •  Advise and provide feedback on the project’s activities to achieve the results expected.
  •  Facilitate and provide relevant information about the available resources to support the research project.
  • Create policy analysis, research, and evaluation strategies to ensure that the researchers and technicians follow a protocol while conducting the experiment.
  • Develop experiment trials to guarantee the proper development of the research experiment.
  • Comply with all applicable CIP policies and procedures for health and safety.

Necessities:

  • A master’s degree in agronomy, biology, or a related discipline of agriculture is required.
  • Strong experience of at least 8 years in agriculture including designing, implementing, and analyzing agronomic on-station and on-farm trials.
  • Extensive knowledge of soil analysis (C, N, P, texture, bulk density, salinity, soil microbiological activity indicators) and nutrient-soil fertility management is required.
  • A field-based rural development project in India that promotes agricultural or other technological innovation, preferably in potatoes.
  • Excellent project management and coordination experience in a variety of R&D activities.
  • Knowledge of social science research, including gender research, is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of digital data collection tools is desired.
  • Good record of scientific and technical publications.
  • Willingness to travel frequently in-country and work under field conditions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in both English and Hindi are required (knowledge of regional languages would be an advantage). A strong track record of scientific and technological publications.
