UNICEF’s programs focus on a range of issues, including health and nutrition, water and sanitation, education, child protection, and emergency response. Some of its key initiatives include providing vaccines to prevent diseases like polio and measles, providing clean water and sanitation facilities to communities, promoting girls’ education, and responding to crises such as natural disasters and conflicts.

UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from governments, individuals, and private sector donors. Its work is guided by the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms the right of every child to survival, development, protection, and participation.

About UN Jobs in Islamabad-Programme Specialist

In order to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and assist children in realizing their rights under the Convention on the Rights of Children, UNICEF supports the Government of Pakistan in accelerating the development for children. Strong relationships with provincial authorities, educators and health experts, frontline workers and social mobilizers, communities and families, and of course the kids and teenagers themselves will be one way to do this.

UNICEF will endeavor to ensure in particular that:

  • Every child survives and thrives — being in good health, immunized, protected from polio and accessing nutritious food.
  • Every child learns.
  • Every child is protected from violence and exploitation and registered at birth.
  • Every child lives in a safe and clean environment, with access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.

The Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Specialist will assist the country office in rolling out the UNICEF PSEA action plan and support UNICEF’s participation in the inter-agency PSEA Network that is established under the HC/HCT, under the direction of the Operations Manager and the UNICEF Pakistan PSEA Taskforce. The PSEA Expert will work closely with the Head of Child Protection and Gender Advisor and have a dotted reporting line to the Operations Manager.

The PSEA Specialist will be stationed in Islamabad and be in charge of aiding PSEA implementation throughout the nation, especially by providing technical assistance to UNICEF Field Offices. In order to support the acceleration of PSEA around core programmatic priorities, such as safe and accessible reporting, survivor-centered assistance, and accountability, as components of a general preventative approach, this includes close collaboration across all program sections and the gender advisor.

The PSEA Specialist will assist UNICEF’s participation to the inter-agency PSEA work, including any specific deliverables and responsibilities that UNICEF holds within the PSEA network and action plan, within the framework of the inter-agency response and the UNCT/HCT PSEA strategy and action plan.
