About UN Jobs in Kenya-Deputy Country Representative

The SDGs, notably SG 5, and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2022–2026) are all connected with the UN Women Global Strategy Plan and the development goals of the Kenyan national development plan, Vision 2030. The Kenya Country Programme has set forth the following objectives in its new Strategic Note: I Increasing women’s leadership and participation in governance; (ii) Strengthening women’s economic empowerment; (iii) Increasing women’s access to services and protection from gender-based violence; and (iv) Strengthening women’s participation in peace, security, and humanitarian response.

The Deputy Country Representative in Kenya, who answers to the Country Representative, is in charge of running the Country Office on a daily basis (CO). In order to guarantee effective and efficient delivery of outcomes as anticipated in the UN Women’s Strategy Plan and the CO plans, the incumbent is responsible for significantly contributing to the design, execution, administration, and oversight of the country program and to operations.

Education:

  • A master’s degree in social science, particularly in public administration, public policy, or international development, is necessary;
  • The advanced university degree may be substituted with a first-level university degree and two more years of relevant experience;
  • A certification in project or program management, such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP®, would be advantageous.

Experience:

  • a minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience in development programs with a strong focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment at the national or international level, ideally in developing nations within the UN system, Agencies, Funds, or Programs;
  • Field-based experience working with multicultural teams;
  • Experience in leading a team

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN working language will be an asset.
