About UN Jobs in Pakistan-Project Livelihoods Specialist

The project’s livelihoods specialist will be in charge of directing the implementation of the early recovery and livelihoods components and offering innovative solutions to new challenges and opportunities under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager SDP. In order to successfully support the implementation of the project activities, the Project Livelihoods Specialist will also serve as a liaison with the national and local authorities, the implementing partners, and other UNDP project teams, UNDP Country Office staff, other UN Agency staff, Government officials, technical advisors and experts, donors, and civil society.

Specifically, these duties are involved:

  • Coordination/Linkages with livelihoods partners and stakeholders

 Responsibilities of UN Jobs in Pakistan-Project Livelihoods Specialist

  1. Under the direct direction of the Program Manager, the Project Livelihoods Specialist will work in the Stabilization and Development Programme.
  2. The SDP livelihoods team will be led by the project livelihoods specialist, who will also provide direction on how to carry out project operations and coordinate with stakeholders.

Programme Development

  • lead the sector of early recovery and livelihoods.
  • In collaboration with the team and other technical experts, provide the Programme Manager with pertinent technical feedback as they prepare concept notes, proposals, and terms of reference.
  • Organize the creation of effective interventions for economic recovery and livelihood programs.
  • Organize project programming that focuses on enhancing livelihood possibilities and priorities as determined through initiatives to engage the community.
  • To promote inclusive projects aimed at early recovery, livelihoods, and social cohesion between urban and rural areas affected by instability and/or natural catastrophes, identify and work with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Assist in the design and operationalization of the livelihoods components based on the strategic directives established by the program manager. You should also play a key substantive and coordinating role with ongoing livelihood programs running in the target areas.
  • Support the project team and the staff of the development partner in creating tools and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to raise the caliber of livelihood interventions.
  • Give recommendations on how to make safe livelihoods programs more feasible, with suggestions on how to improve cooperation to help women in need.
  • Support for the creation of baselines and goals as well as support for the creation of monitorable indicators for livelihood.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and results-based management procedures of the UNDP by ensuring that early recovery and livelihoods are systematically addressed.
  • From a livelihood and gender perspective, evaluate and analyze how livelihood and gender concerns have been included into the project work plans, ToRs, and outputs.
  • Keep track of how well the livelihood programs are addressing important issues related to gender, economic recovery, and livelihood.

Programme Implementation:

  • Ensure the implementation of the early recovery, livelihoods, and social cohesion components of the program against annual work-plan, targets, time plans and result indicators;
  • Develop internal monitoring and operational plans that help program implementation;
  • Provide guidance and oversight to the implementing partners in the implementation of livelihood activities with a major focus on gender development.
  • Foster private sector partnerships with communities on livelihood development opportunities.
  • To strengthen, guide and monitor the livelihood interventions and ensure compliance with UNDP’s overall goals for livelihoods programming.
  • Build the capacities of the project team on skill-based innovative sustainable livelihood community models.

Capacity Development

  • Provide substantive support to enhance the national and local capabilities in planning and designing livelihood interventions in post-conflict, natural disaster recovery and rehabilitation settings through training and advocacy.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the government and civil society with regard to the norms, standards and best practices on sustainable livelihoods.

UN Jobs in Pakistan-Project Livelihoods Specialist Requirments

Education:

  • a graduate degree in public policy, economics, or a closely related social science

Experience:

  • five (5) or more years of relevant experience in the early recovery and livelihoods fields
  • a track record of designing and facilitating varied early recovery and livelihood initiatives.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Urdu (written and spoken) is required.
  • Knowledge of Pashto would be a strong asset.
