The post is with Yemen’s Aden Country Office of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The incumbent directly answers to the OHCHR agent in Yemen, who is situated in Aden.

Responsibilities:

The human rights officer will be accountable for the following tasks within the scope of their authority:

  • Coordinates and oversees operations for the OHCHR Yemen Country Programme, taking into account gender issues.
  • evaluates the impact of human rights issues and events on the human rights situation in the designated region or nation by conducting thorough study and analysis on these topics.
  • Gathers and evaluates gender-specific data and indicators, as well as other human rights-related data and indicators, in the nation or region of assignment.
  • Under the direction of the OHCHR representative, supports the Yemeni National Commission of Investigation to Examine Alleged Violations of Human Rights; monitors the application of decisions made by decision-making bodies.

  • Ensures that political, humanitarian, and economic actions and programs incorporate concerns about human rights, particularly gender equality.

UN Jobs in Yemen-HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICER Requirments

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in law, politics, international relations, the social sciences, or a closely related discipline from an advanced university. It is possible to replace the advanced degree with a first-level university degree and two more years of acceptable job experience.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of steadily increasing responsibility in the fields of law, politics, international relations, or a closely connected field are required.

Langauges:

  • The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. Fluency in English is necessary for the open post, both verbally and in writing. Arabic language proficiency is preferred.
