About Organization

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide. It was founded in 1961 and is headquartered in Rome, Italy. WFP works in more than 80 countries, providing food assistance to more than 80 million people each year.

WFP’s mission is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger by 2030, and it provides food assistance in emergency situations, as well as to support long-term development programs to improve food security and nutrition. The organization works closely with governments, NGOs, and other partners to deliver food assistance to those in need, and it also provides technical support and expertise to help countries build their own food security systems.

WFP is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from governments, the private sector, and individuals. In addition to its work providing food assistance, WFP also engages in research, policy development, and advocacy on issues related to hunger and food security.

About UN Jobs-Programme Policy Officer

At the same time, the effects of climate change raise the possibility of exacerbating current vulnerabilities, resulting in internal and external migration, displacement, and weakened social cohesion in recipient communities, as well as slower economic growth nationwide and decreased food security. Climate change is causing warmer temperatures, an increase in extreme weather events, and water scarcity throughout the world, but particularly in Ecuador. This trend is anticipated to continue until the year 2050 and beyond. The possibility that climate change-related rural outmigration could lower rural food production, which could affect rural livelihoods and national food security, particularly in developing metropolitan regions, is particularly concerning.

Due to this changing environment, WFP Ecuador is looking for a consultant to provide advice on program creation and management, particularly with regard to partnerships and programming connected to climate change. In Ecuador, the consultant will be in charge of creating, overseeing, and providing assistance for a sizable and intricate program that includes programming linked to aid, development, and climate change. The senior consultant will be in charge of leading and overseeing WFP’s work in Ecuador, including climate change adaptation and other programming, under the general supervision of the Country Director, the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director, and the close coordination with relevant departments across the mission at WFP Headquarter and Regional Bureau Panama.
