An Overview of the Helmut Schmidt Program Opportunity
In order to prepare them for responsible positions in or for their regions of origin, the Helmut Schmidt program provides future leaders from developing countries with the chance to pursue a master’s degree in subjects related to social and economic development. This program also helps to establish democratically oriented economic and social forms that aim to overcome social inequalities.
Graduate students who want to actively support the economic and social advancement of their home countries can apply to be considered for the German Academic Exchange Service’s master’s program in public policy and governance, which offers full scholarships to study at esteemed German universities. Participants with expertise and experience are enabled by the program. They would require in their professional lives as well as as future leaders in the fields of politics, law, economics, and administration.
The seven German universities listed below provide a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Good Governance through the Helmut Schmidt Scholarship program.
The DAAD Scholarship application period is open from June 1 through July 31, 2024.

Development Studies, Governance, and Public Policy at the University of Passau; Peace and Conflict Studies at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg; Public Policy at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt; Social Protection (blended program) at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg; Development and Governance (one-year program) at the University of Duisburg-Essen

Qualifications:

Because of the blended learning approach used in the “Social Protection” program, the following variance in funding benefits is applicable: In the fourth semester, which is an online semester that must be completed in the student’s home country or another developing nation, a sur-place-rate of € 500 per month is paid.

Procedure for applications:
The DAAD is not the place where applicants to the Helmut Schmidt Master’s program in Public Policy and Good Governance should send their full applications and required documentation in either German or English. Applying to TWO master’s programs and the DAAD scholarship to only the chosen universities requires submitting a single application and one motivation letter outlining your priorities and why you chose those particular programs. In the application, you must also indicate the priority (first, second) you choose.

If you submit your application to more than two universities or to DAAD, it will not be taken into consideration.
